Philosophy of Education

I believe students need structure and discipline in order to succeed. They need a firm, fair and supportive teacher. It is my goal to work with my students each year to establish what is expected of the members in each class. I believe students need to learn accountability and they need to learn that there are consequences to their actions, both good and bad. In my classes I will encourage respectful behavior using positive reinforcement, and teach responsibility when misbehavior arises.

Each student learns differently and has a number of strengths and weaknesses. As a professional educator, it will be my job to tap into the various intelligences of the students and guide them through meaningful learning experiences. I want to know each student and how they learn best, empowering me to be the best that I can be for them.

All students deserve an environment that promotes respect and fairness. Students need to have an instructor who presents effective problem-solving strategies, encourages individuality and supports positive characteristics. My role as a professional educator is to make these strategies available to my students, allowing them to develop as a confident and courteous individual.

Cooperative learning is essential to student success. It provides students with the opportunity to develop and enhance their communication and teamwork skills, which will benefit them in all areas of their life, now and in the future. A cooperative learning environment also allows students to experience their peers as active and caring members of their educational support system.

I commit myself to being a positive role model for my students. I will teach them, not only with my words, but also through my actions: how to be an active, involved and positive member of the community. I will respect them and teach them to respect each other. I will support them as they pursue their own goals and dreams. I will come out to cheer for them in athletics, watch them in plays and listen to their voices sing. Moreover, I will smile as I see them grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
